Arena Report: "Thanksgiving Throwdown" LAW Rector, AR 11.23.07

----The second leg of the “Thanksgiving Throwdown” was real good last night. When I arrived at the building, I noticed on the blackboard in the back there were only going to be 4 matches. That was ok with me and as one worker said – it would not be long and drawn out. For a fan’s perspective you would think they would feel cheated paying $10 to see 4 matches, but no one left that building not getting their money’s worth.

----Jon Michael beat Stan Lee in a fantastic bout. They started out just hold for hold. Lee was doing stuff that you can only watch on ROH DVDs. Both guys were just flawless. Lee had his ribs taped from an angle the previous week, so Michael had it easy for the heat. They kept the ribs taped the whole match leaving the illusion and never letting the fans think he is not hurting. Crowd was so super hot for Lee. For the rookies in this area – get a tape/DVD of this match – and take a look at Lee coming out of heat. Babyface “fire” at it’s best. A bunch of near falls. Michael did a Savage elbow drop across the ring. Lee did a springboard Jericho dropkick to Michael who was standing on the apron bumping him to floor. This was followed by a Hurracanrana from the ring apron to the floor on Michael. Ref bump with a chair getting in the ring. Lee hit a Spicolli driver on Michael on the chair. No ref. He went to the top for frog splash missing it and taking the chair on the ribs. Michael waited for him to get up and speared him for the win. After the bout, Michael then powerbombed Lee on a chair leaving him there. [****]

----Bill Dundee beat Kevin White with Sue Young/Mr. White. Ditto from the night before with some variation. Dundee was super over here and the crowd got into it. White used his awesome double secret phantom foreign object taking the heat. Dundee dropped down out of the ring to go for Young and he bumped again outside the ring for White. White slammed his head to a ringpost and then slammed him into a table. White would get ref’s attention as Young/Garry would choke Dundee. White tried to use the ropes to pin Dundee, but the ref caught him. Dundee then used the ropes to pin White. Crowd popped big for the win. Another good solid old school bout. [**1/2]

----Loser Leaves Town: Derrick King with Tony Gunn beat Flash Flanagan with Jeff O’Dell. Another real good match. Crowd here loves DK and LOATH Flash. Crowd was into every spot from the opening bell. Heat started with Jeff holding DK’s foot and Flash taking the advantage. Flash hit DK with a draped thru the ropes DDT that looked good. Flash used a superkick cutting DK off at one point. Near falls and just pure wrestling. Flash missed a moonsault. Finish had DK go for Jeff, but he moved with Jeff bumping. DK hit the superkick on Flash for the pin. [****]

----$10,000 Man Battle Royal – Winner – Tommy Redneck. I think it would just wrong if I didn’t mention all the guys that came out to work the main event. So, here goes – Shannon Lee, Seth Knight, Sergeant Shakedown, Tank, Christian Jacobs, Jon Michael, Ray Ray, Dell Tucker, Rockin Randy, Arnez, Psycho, Idol Bane, Scott Fury, Slim Pickens, Zane Richards, Derrick King and TGB. I am usually not a fan of battle royals and was not looking forward to this one. But, it was fun and the crowd stayed with it during the whole match. Shakedown was the first out. Shannon Lee took a bump over the top rope that I thought killed him. Tank military pressed Ray Ray and chunked him into the third row. Crazy shit. Psycho/Tank were trading punches in the middle of the ring at one time and the whole crowd was chanting “Psycho..Psycho.” When Psycho was eliminated it was scary as he was balancing on the top rope and it looked like he was going to land on his head. Final four had DK, TGB, Tank and Redneck. DK went for the superkick and TGB did the Orton/HBK spot with a shot right to the nuts and a throw over the ropes. Stip in the match was that Redneck could not touch TGB or he would be eliminated. So Tank/TGB just beat the hell out of Redneck. TGB was celebrating talking about how he was going to win, when Tank looked over and finally had enough. Tank hit TGB with two hard closelines and went to throw TGB out. Redneck came up behind Tank giving him a boost with TGB/Tank being eliminated and Redneck winning. Huge pop for Redneck win. [***]

----Just a little over 80 paid with close to 100 in the building. Gate was close to $800, which was almost double the crowd from the week before and quadruple the gate. That was a good thing as EVERYONE got paid…First bout was real good, even though a “legend” thought too much was done in it…Rumors backstage that NBW’s Baron Malkavain and Slim Pickens [JR Benson] are headed to TLCW…I want to see Kevin White vs one of these guys in a 20 minute bout – Stan Lee, Flash, Derrick King, Jon Michael or TGB. One reason is because I think he could have a good match with any of these guys. Also, because White gets heat because he usually only works Dundee and a lot of the boys feel it is a “safety net” for him. I think White is underrated...Tank made everyone look small in the battle royal – even Psycho. He also stayed in the ring the whole match and worked his ass off…If the rookies in this area want to know how to work a crowd and put on great matches – get a copy of the two [****] bouts from this show. Hell, even get a copy of the White/Dundee bout. The latter bout is old school psychology – something everyone should know. The first bout was a combo of old school/new stuff that the fans are use to watching on TV. DK/Flash was just as good as it gets in this area when it comes to pure wrestling…For those keeping count, Jon Michael become the second person this year to receive a [****] rating in both a tag team and singles match following Lee. DK become the third person this year to receive a [****] in both a tag team and singles match this year less than a hour later. LOL Flash received his first [****] of the year. BUT, Stan Lee received his third [****] rating of the year making him a top candidate for RRO Best Damn Performer of the Year. He is currently my fave performer to watch…Next stop tonight – Ripley, TN for TLCW – “I Quit” – Flash vs TGB, DK vs Lawler, Loser Leaves TLCW – Michael vs Dustin Starr and more.

A Piece of my Mind-Nov 23rd,2007 by "The Big Cheese" Sal Corrente

If you have read my columns in the past you are aware that they are quite critical and opinionated. If you normally enjoy reading my column this one may be a little to positive for you. I wanted to take this Friday’s column to point out the good things about even the people I am normally most critical of.

I want to start with the person I am normally most critical of

Stephanie McMahon: I don’t agree with many of her decisions but she has one hundred percent thrown herself into her position and is doing what she feels is best to keep company strong and viable.

Vincent Kennedy McMahon: He seems to always be sure that his company is fiscally sound. His stock pays a decent dividend.

Dixie Carter: She is very fan accessible when they have fan gatherings and other times as well.

Jeff Jarrett: Is a man trying to guide a company that is sharing his first holiday season with his three daughters after the loss of his wife and their mother.

Jerry Lawler: His longevity and what he has been able to accomplish is quite phenomenal.

Corey Maclin: He has created a working formula to live his dream and be a local TV star. I have to say many of us would trade places with him in a minute.

I also want to address the things that I have to be thankful for in the wrestling business and outside of the business.

I am very thankful that Michelle McCool became a WWE diva. I needed something to help me get over Stacey Keibler withdrawal.
As critical as I am of the product I would surely miss Monday Night Raw if it was gone.
I find myself being somewhat thankful for Hornswoggle. He does understand how to entertain.
I am thankful for my old tag team partner Carolina’s Own David Isley.
I am thankful for Gorgeous Gary Royal who guided an untrained “Big Cheese” through numerous matches and helped me to become a better in ring performer.
I am thankful for “The Mouth of the South” Jimmy Hart whose guidance and input helped the WrestleReunion events run smoothly and to the fans satisfaction.
I am thankful to life long friend Tony Attanasio for all his support with the WrestleReunion project.
I am thankful to Rob Russen who did a lot of the day to day work regarding WrestleReunion and helped bring some stars like Wendi Richter and DDP to the table.
I am thankful for my good buddy “Sweet” Stan Lane. He is one of the rare people in this industry who’s word actually means something.
I am very thankful that we were able to get Wrestling Living Legend Bruno Sammartino to participate in our WrestleReunion events.

I do hope that everyone had a truly great Thanksgiving and is looking forward to joyous holiday season. The year of 2007 has not been the greatest for me. My new battle cry is I can’t wait for 08. Here are a few two things that I hope happen in Wrestling in 2008.

I hope that we get more actual wrestling on Monday nights.

I want a year that isn’t filled with scandal.

I hope that if this is Ric Flair’s last year as an in ring competitor that it is all handled respectably.

I want someone smart enough to give Christie Ricci a chance and let’s have some really great ladies matches on television.

Can any of us wait to see a string of little people come in to wrestle Hornswoggle?

This picture was taken in the green room at The Ray Martin Show in Sydney Australia in 1992. It was a live talk show that we appeared on. At the time Ray Martin was like the Phil Donahue of Australia. In the photo is Hillbilly Cousin Luke (Gene Petit) Debbie Levy our assistant on the trip, Stephen “Patch” Nichols star of Days of our Lives and former star of General Hospital, myself and Chief Jules Strongbow. We were all guests on that days show.

This has been a small slice of a piece of my mind

Poll Results & New Poll!!

----I slowed up on the DVD releases, because I did not have a lot of new people wanting them. I think the DVDs that we have released are good promotional tools for the workers in this area, but they are not going to sell great to other workers. In trying to retool the DVD concept a bit, I found that many underground wrestling traders sell any or all of these titles without any problems, so I am assuming that they are mostly copyright free. So, I worked a deal with a trader – Wrestling Exchange – and plan to release these titles. If you are reading this and you feel you own copyrights to any of the material below, please contact me and production of the product will be halted. All four of these titles are planned for release, but I am trying to get one ready for shipping by Christmas. So, LMK which release would you like to see more??

Which DVD release would you want to buy before Christmas??

-Best of Brock Lesner In Japan
-Best of KAW 1999 – Over 2.5 hours of footage
-Bruiser Brody Best of Foreign Tours – Japan and Puerto Rico
-Japanese Double feature – Best of Road Warriors/Best of Goldberg in Japan

----Please note - all DVDs will be professional packaged and sold exclusively by either RRO or Wrestling Exchange. Titles will sold on this site for only $10 and high quality factory produced products. They will also be sold at events and such - available in bulk pricing for promoters. DVDs will NOT be sold at any other outlets like Hastings or such.

Arena Report: "Thanksgiving Throwdown" Dyersburg, TN 11.22.07

----The first leg of the “Thanksgiving Throwdown” tour kicked off in Dyersburg, TN last night. It was not a great show, but nothing really horrible about it either. Everyone seems to have enjoyed the matches and the show flowed pretty well. The show started out with a 10-Bell Salute to NBW ref Barry Harber and then kicked off to three matches before the first intermission that seem to keep the crowds interest.

----Tim Alfonzo beat The Grappler with a roll up. Not a lot of time given to the match and that was probably good. Alfonzo still needs work and Grappler is a rookie from the Kevin White school. Grappler is still green as grass and a bit clumsy. They did follow psychology though. [*1/2]

----“Black Label Society” [Void/Robbie Douglas] beat “Asylum” [Arnez/Psycho] & Dell Tucker/Cody Melton in a triple threat. This was as good as it could be with three teams. They did get smart though and only have two guys in the ring at the same time. Douglas and Melton both are rookies and impressive. Psycho actually took Melton down doing some wrestling holds. LOL Melton did good coming out of them and did good just taking a beating. BLS were over with the crowd and they liked the Asylum also. Nothing great about the bout, but nothing wrong either as the match went to a clusterfuck [and I was told that was how it was SUPPOSE to be] with BLS finishing off Melton with their finisher for a win. [**1/2]

----Reggie B Fine beat Precious by reversal. I am always hard on Fine when it comes to his announcing and he is not a great worker, but he does have charisma. He came out with a big fur coat on walking around shaking everyone’s hand. Precious then came out and got a good pop from Fine’s reaction. Match was not much with just gay comedy. Precious started the heat when Fine went nut first into the middle turnbuckle. [a move he does in every match he has EVER had] Precious hit him with a chain for the win and the ref caught him with it and changed the decision. [*1/2]

----Intermission ended with Richard Marx interviewing MAW’s KC Gold. Gold was putting over “Thanksgiving Throwdown” and then saying the MAW show in Memphis was going to be the top show. Derrick King came out to defend TLCW and said that no promotion – Memphis Wrestling, LAW or MAW – was better than TLCW. I think that was a shoot. DK ended the interview with giving Gold a superkick.

----Seth Knight beat Gladiator & Shannon Lee in a triple threat. Can you say CLUSTERFUCK?? Very little psychology and some real weird stuff too. Gladiator would get the pin, but the ref would not be there?? Isn’t that supposed to be the babyface getting the pin with no ref there?? Strange. Crowd popped big for Lee and Knight and was into the match a bit. By the end the crowd was dead. Knight pinned Gladiator after Gladiator had used his shield to hurt Lee. BTW, all three guys looked good in execution of their moves and such. This was probably the best I have seen Gladiator. Knight seems to be going thru the motions though. [*]

----Kevin White with Garry White & Sue Young beat Bill Dundee with special ref – Derrick King. Good solid old school match. Heat started when White hit Dundee with a phantom chain and Dundee sold good for White. Dundee does more selling for White than he would do for anyone else. White took him outside the ring and smashed his head on a chair. White would get the ref’s attention and then Sue Young and Mr. White would get their shots in. DK played the perfect ref not taking anything from the match. Finish had a ref bump with Mr. White getting up on the ring apron on one side of the ring. DK got up and hit with a superkick and Mr. White bumped [ala Coach BT fashion LOL] to the floor. Young threw White a chain while DK was on the other side of the ring and White used it to hit Dundee for the win. [**1/2]

----“Survivor Series Rules Match” “TGB” Greg Anthony/Rude/Tommy Redneck/Rockin Randy beat Flash Flanagan/Jon Michael/Tatt2/Stan Lee. Best match on the show, but what can expect with the guys that were in this match?? Who is the worst worker of this crew?? Match went about 35 minutes and the boys [and even some involved] in the back seem to complain it went too long, but the crowd was into it to the very end. TGB eliminated Michael first. Randy took some real hard Flash chops. DAMN!! Rude & Redneck [who were on the same team] ended up pushing each other and then fought to the back to be counted out. Randy pinned Tatt2 leaving it as a regular tag team match. Flash did a tilt-a-whirl spinebuster during part of this that looked awesome. Randy was positioned on Flash as if it was going to be a Tornado DDT, but Flash kept spinning him over and over and hit him with a spinebuster. Randy held Flash’s feet on the outside of the ring so he got counted out. Lee pinned Randy after an awesome Dragon Suplex that he released at the last moment before impact. This left TGB vs Lee and they turned it on for the last 5 to 7 minutes including Stan doing a dive outside the ring and a standing moonsault. Match ended with a ref bump and TGB using the TLCW title hitting Lee for the pin and win. Some botched spots, but nothing major. My big problem with this bout was that people should be eliminated by being pinned, not counted out. It also in reality is a tag team match, but very little psychology that way until it was only 4 left. [***]

----50 to 60 people in the crowd with a gate probably close to $400. TLCW will now run this building in Dyersburg bi-weekly. I have also heard talk of TLCW running two shows on Saturday nights. If that is true, then look for them to pluck some of the better talent from area promotions…Chris Rocker no showed and was scheduled for the main event. Apparently he was unreachable…Some NBW brass seem to be worried about NBW Ron Bryson being at the show. Hey guys – TLCW did a 10 Bell Salute to his father-in-law!!... Gladiator gimmick really looks better live than on TV – sword is a little too much, because if you had sword why would you fight someone?? Why not just kill them?…The trio of Kevin/Young/Mr. White are really good live. Good heat as White serves the manager getting heat outside the ring and Young does a good job as a cheerleader. Good facial expressions from Young. Young is also much prettier live than on TV…Apparently Melton had some dressing room etiquette problems and got some sense slapped into him. Kid has potential, but has to get his head on straight…TGB got a busted nose from Lee’s standing moonsault…TGB/Flash/Lee/Michael all four are not on TV and are four of the best in this area. Lee, if he got out of this area and went up to the northeast would be a superstar…Fun time was had by all. Thanks to cast and crew for their hospitality. Next stop – Rector, AR tonight!!

Bill/Mr. X beat Cody up before throwing him out…Harper came out and said that on Dec 1 a Triple Threat Number one Contender match Between Casino Kid, Tim Hanson & Rodney Mack will take place… Lucky came out pulling Brittney around the arena asking her who she was going to come out with – him or his brother…Treat walked out on Olympia [Loose Cannon in another gimmick]…I was told by a few in the back that the Jazz vs Nikki bout was real good…The street fight was all over the building. Mack pinned Smart to win the bout for his team...This group is in talks with a HUGE star for a benefit show in December. As soon as I am "ok'ed"
to announce it I will.

Flashback 2000-2001 "Riot Squad - Justice Family Tree"

----The zine Rasslin Riot folded, I had to have some outlet for my wrestling fix, so I bought Toukon Retsuden 2 for the Playstation. That game was in the PSOne for almost a year. I had tons of created characters and such. I created tons of characters to run storylines and such. The Riot Squad was one of the teams that I created and used on that game. Later on when we decided to team Paul Justice with a wrestler by the name of Justin Cody, I wanted to call them the “Riot Squad”. Justin Cody name was changed to Rick Justice and we had the first incarnation of the team.

----Another video game tidbit that belongs with the “Riot Squad” story - I bought the Japanese version of "No Mercy" [Virtual Pro Wrestling 2] and the converter, so I could play it on my US N64. When I went to create "The Riot Squad", they had these "cut-off" black shirts as an option. I used those on the characters on the game, because the real "Riot Squad" [Paul Justice/Rick Justice] actually wore shirts like that. The characters on the game had American writing on the shirts that said, "Feel The Power", which I have no idea what that meant to Japanese wrestling, but as usual it probably was some weird translation. "Feel The Power" actually became the "Riot Squad" motto that we used on T-shirts and it used still here on the site banner.

----I got ahead of myself a bit, because the “Feel The Power” would come later. The best I can remember and figure out from notes and such, “Precious” Paul Justice and “Rowdy” Rick Justice debuted in July 16, 2000 beating “Total Kaos” [Kade/Viper[Christian Jacobs]]. Neither guy knew what I was going to nickname them until they came out that day, which was a funny rib when you seen the looks on their faces. In February of 2001 “Mysterious” Mark Justice debut. Mark had been wrestling as Mizery and actually made his wrestling debut wearing my old time BT Express mask. Later in the year Mark became “Sexxy Boy” Mark Justice. The three of these guys would form one combination or another with Mark/Paul or Paul/Rick or Rick/Mark doing the gimmick. Paul would later tag with Christian Jacobs as “Sex & Candy” as “Brutally Sexy” Paul Justice. Mark also tagged in a popular tag team in this area as “Pretty Sexxy” with Kilo. Paul and Rick would leave the business and Mark would carry on the name with various other partners. Ms Jennifer would change her name to Jennifer Justice and still works under the Justice name.

----The Justice name was actually thought of by Paul, when he started to wrestle. So we got to credit him for that part. As CCW started up and I booked other promotions like ICW in Malden, MO, there was a lot of the Justice Clan that came out. Here goes the list from the start to now…

Paul Justice
Rick Justice
Mark Justice
Jennifer Justice
Zane Justice [wrestles as Zane Richards now]
JD Justice [only a wrestled a few matches teaming with Zane as “Southern Justice” managed by Jennifer]
Rob Justice [also worked as Ozwick – worked with Mark as “Riot Squad”]
Magnum & Mizery [storyline was that they were both masked Justice Brothers running from the law] form the tag team “Justice Squad”. They were Paul & Mark working against “Total Kaos” in a feud in Arbyrd, MO.
TW Justice [worked with Mark as “Riot Squad” and still works]
Matt Justice [trained by Ken Wayne – debuted this year and most of the Justice brothers were surprised about him. LOL]
Robert Justice [took the Justice gimmick just a few weeks ago]

----I put together a couple of videos for this flashback. The one on top is just a short music video I made featuring pics of some of the Justice clan and the “Riot Squad” music. The music was actually taken from the end of one Pantera song and the start of another one. I think Mark mixed this version of it with the special effects. The second video clip on the bottom here is from 1.27.01 for MSWA in Gibson, TN – “Riot Squad” [Paul/Rick] vs “Total Kaos” [Kade/Viper]. Storyline was that this was the Squad’s last chance at a title shot. It was a No DQ bout and we all five juiced. Jacobs got the best juice that day and ended up with two black eyes from Paul, because he kept telling Paul to bust him open. Rick got very little blood and we ribbed him that he never did even blade. This was a real good match considering the stage they were at in their careers. It really stands the test of time also – I still popped at a few of the spots. There was some psychology in it, but not much. [the match was suppose to be an all out brawl] The match runs about 20 minutes – take time and watch it please. Check out the “Total Kaos” finisher and the spots at the very beginning are fun also.

----I was just told that a big match that will showcasing the New Daisy show in Memphis on Sunday night will be an Unification Title Match: IWA vs LAW vs MAW vs TLCW – One Champion – Danny B Goode [IWA] vs Chris Lexx [MAW] vs “The Golden Boy” Greg Anthony [LAW/TLCW]. There will be ONE winner with the champion defending the belt at all 4 promotions.

The Ratings: Memphis Wrestling TV 11.17.07

----The Memphis Wrestling TV this past Saturday scored a 4.0 with 66,652 viewers sliding into the 3rd highest showing of the year. If this trend continues then the 4th quarter of the year could be best ratings of the year. The last 6 weeks the show has been scoring about 10,000 more viewers on an average. Unless we see a huge decrease [and last year’s Thanksgiving rating only did only a 2.8], November will finish out as a good month for Memphis TV. It is funny how when you feature storylines and good wrestling that you actually get good ratings; weird huh?? The current crew of White, Starr, DK, Dotson, Brian C, Ali, TK2 and Tatt2 seem to be giving the audience what they want to watch. Where’s Lawler in the picture?? Well, the high rating on Saturday proved that people will watch the show without Lawler.

----Let’s look more at the actual show. The 6 man tag scored over 70,000 viewers to watch a real good match. Even though the retention level was 95% for the 3rd quarter and pretty much the same for the 4th quarter, they did lose viewers. OTV segment was good this week, but it looks like they started turning off the TV during that and just kept doing it. The show finished with over 3,000 less viewers that it started. A Piece of my Mind-Nov 20th, 2007 by "The Big Cheese" Sal Corrente

When I was a wrestling fan growing up I can remember the biggest concerns that I had were that the Mets and the Braves wouldn’t go into extra innings. If one or both of those things happened it could cause wrestling to be delayed or heaven forbid pre empted. I ached to find out the results from MSG and The Omni in Atlanta. It was so hard to get results in those days thank goodness in NY we had Warner Wolf the sportscaster on WCBS who would show clips of a few matches and a few results. If you were lucky you got some results from Georgia Championship Wrestling on TBS from the Omni. It was a much better time; Wrestling was a close knit fraternity. The business still had bad apples in it and people that were considered headaches but they were dealt with internally. It was a time when all promoters wanted other promoters to be successful. It is good for everyone when the wrestling business is successful everywhere.

Today things are much different. I really believe Vince would feel good if TNA went under. In reality, I think that Vince is the kind of guy that is only happy if he is the sole survivor. The world can support more than one good wrestling company. It is currently supporting two bad ones. I am sure it could support two good ones.

It was good to see Jericho back on TV. He seemed alive and full of energy. I don’t know how much he can help the company. I do know he is a fresh face that the people believe in. I do know that I will enjoy his time on TV more than a lot of the other talent. Is he the savior of the company? I don’t believe that he is. Is he a welcome relief to those of us that have found the WWE to be the world’s best sleeping pill? He most certainly is. Did you notice the intent look on Randy Orton’s face? The arrogance that he displays, what a great actor he has become. Wait a minute is he acting? Some people do much better playing themselves

I have always been a friend and supporter of women’s wrestling. I have always booked women on my shows. I have been close friends with many of the women wrestlers for over twenty five years. I have to say that what WWE is presenting is HORRIBLE. The girl’s matches that they put together are an insult to wrestling fans. There are girls in the WWE that can work. In my opinion they are Victoria and Mickie James. After that you have Melina (at times) and Beth Phoenix. I believe that Candice Michelle was making great improvement’s before she got hurt and Michelle McCool can do a few things. The rest of these girls are either going to hurt themselves or someone else. They are awful. These girls are not athletes. I am sure they are all trying their best. I have met several of them and they are wonderful girls with great personalities. They can be a part of the company without being in an in ring role. If the truth be told, I am a huge Michelle McCool mark. But she isn’t ready for an in ring role. These girls should not be taking up valuable TV time with these horrible matches. If you want a woman’s division of some kind, there are girls on the Independent scene that can actually work. I know there are several out there and start with Christie Ricci. It is an insult to wrestling fans everywhere that she isn’t on RAW working with Victoria, Instead we are treated to botched spots and inadequate talent.

I hate what tag team wrestling has become. When I started watching wrestling the WWF Tag Team Champions were The Valiant Bros. (Johnny and Jerry) Jimmy was always on the outside and was there for six man tags. These guys were lead by Capt. Lou Albano and together the four of them could piss you off. One thing that was great about it for me was that it was clear that these guys could be beat. It was the wit and cunning many times of the Capt. that pulled the match out. If it wasn’t that it was double teaming behind the referee’s back that pulled out the victory. There have been so many great teams that can stand on their own great careers: The Andersons, The Freebird’s, The Wild Samoans, Patterson and Stevens, Stevens and Bockwinkel, The Hart Foundation, The British Bulldogs and recent teams of the Edge and Christian, and The New Age Outlaws. It is a crying shame that right now we have nothing but a hodgepodge of thrown together guys that comprise some makeshift team that the people have no emotional tie in to. I could rebuild the tag team division very quickly if I had the chance in WWE. I can tell you that the way to start is to stop all this back and forth nonsense with Matt and Jeff Hardy. I can tell you that neither one of these guys individually mean half as much as The Hardy Boys do together. How hard is that for WWE creative to see? Or are they having trouble feeding it to Vince and Stephanie? Sometimes I wonder what would happen if the WWE upper management went on Are You Smarter than a Fifth Grader?

This week’s picture might be of some interest to some wrestling fans. In 1997 I promoted a major reunion of many of the secondary characters from The Andy Griffith Show. I am still friends with many of them today. Some of the folks in this picture have passed on since. In the back row is David Browning “The Mayberry Deputy”, the Darling Family (The Dillard’s) with Charlene (Maggie Peterson one of the nicest people alive). In the center row is Alan Newsome (Floyd the Barber look a like) Clint Howard (Ron’s brother and Leon on The Andy Griffith Show) Keith Thibodaux (Johnny Paul Jason and Little Ricky on Andy Griffith) next to him was my good friend Jean Carson (Fun Girl Daphne the famous Hello Doll lady) Sue Ane Langdon (Nurse Mary) and Arlene Golonka (Millie) and Myself Front Row: Phyllis, Maggie Peterson’s sister who was one of the musicians that we used, Ronnie Schell (Duke Slater on Gomer Pyle) Jackie Joseph and Howard Morris (Ramona Wiley and Ernest T.Bass) and finally my friend Betty Lynn (Thelma Lou).

This has been a piece of my mind

Slim "The Bulldog" Pickens beat Rockin' Randy and Zane Richards in a Triple Threat match when he pinned Rockin' Randy with a sunset flip

Psycho vs. Idol Bane ended in a Double Count Out

L.A.W. Heavyweight Champion "The Golden Boy" Greg Anthony (w/ Jeff O'Dell) pinned Sgt. Shakedown after a Golden Guillotine in a non-title match. After the match, Jeff & TGB announced the other three members of "Team O'Dell" who would ensure that TGB would win the $10,000 Royale Challenge at Thanksgiving Throwdown: Idol Bane, Flash Flanagan, and the 400-lb TANK. After the introductions, Team O'Dell was interrupted by Tommy Redneck, who came to ring to pay his $500 entry fee into the $10,000 Royale Challenge. As Redneck reached for his wallet, Jeff O'Dell informed him that as the result of the pre-match stipulation in Redneck's match against TGB last week, Redneck owed L.A.W. $500 in fines for punching TGB 10 times with a closed fist. Then, O'Dell in a sign of "generosity", offered to forgive the $500 in fines and accept Redneck's $500 entry fee...on one condition: Redneck will not touch TGB in the $10,000 Royale Challenge. Redneck reluctantly accepted.

Arnez pinned The Canadian Phoenix

Stan Lee pinned Christian Jacobs (w/ Jon Micheal) when he rolled up and over a powerbomb attempt and caught Jon Micheal in a sunset flip.

Flash Flanagan pinned with Derrick King by hanging onto the top rope.

RasslerResults: NBW Dyersburg, TN 11.17.07

----Riot Squad opened the show with an interview. Jimmy Tidwell said that Allen Walker was a little tied up and couldn’t be there but he did sign a piece of paper leaving him in charge for the night. Allen made a match with Riot Squad member against Jeremy Moore but it didn’t say which member so Tidwell made it a 3 on 1 handicapped match. Jeremy Moore came out and said that he had already spoken to Allen earlier in the week and informed him who his partners was and one of them was.......out comes Chief Crazy Train. Crazy Train get the mic and tells Mark Justice that he "makes rain dance on Mark Justice".....but there’s no rain. The Riot Squad berates Crazy Train and calls him an idiot and wants to know where the rain is. About that time, Crazy Train grabs a glass of water and throws it into Mark’s face.

----"Real Deal" Tim Edwards wrestled "Pure Sex" J.R. Manson to a DCO…"Southern Outlaw" Kilo defeated the Phantom Stranger by DQ when 187 interfered…Baron Malkavain defeated Phoenix X…Motley Cruz defeated Gaylon Ray to retain the High Risk Title…"Hot Boy" John Roberts & Suicidal Youth defeated The East Coast Bad Boys to become the new NBW Tag Team Champions…"Upset Kid" Jeremy Moore, Crazy Train & "Girl Candy" Christian Jacobs defeated The Riot Squad (Mark Justice, Rob Justice & Tank) when Jacobs pinned Mark Justice.

----After the main event the Riot Squad was beating down Moore, Jacobs and Train when "Superman" Jason Reed came running out for the save. Riot Squad put a beating on Reed until everyone came back to their senses and then it was 4 on 3 with the Riot Squad getting put in their place. It took all 4 men to take Tank down and once they got him down they would not let him up. Jacobs gave Mark 2 spears as well as Rob Justice. Jacobs told Mark that he did not train him to be this way. He trained him to wrestle, not be a bully and try and hurt people. Justice told Jacobs that if he stuck around long enough he would find out just how mean he can be and why he is the heavyweight champion. Next week it will be one on one, "Girl Candy" Christian Jacobs vs "The Enforcer" Mark Justice for the NBW Heavyweight title.

----Around 65 to 70 people in the building with a gate of close to $400…Phantom Stranger was the Sergeant Savage from a couple of weeks ago with a new gimmick. He told, since he is still in the military, that he can do that as a gimmick…The water in the face angle at the beginning of the show was the most over segment of the night…Crowd popped most for the main event. They hate the Riot Squad and they popped huge for the faces, especially CJ…Jacobs/Justice feud goes all the way back to the CCW days as Jacobs helped train Justice. “Riot Squad” vs “Total Kaos” was one of the major feuds in this area during their first years of their career…I got the chance to watch some of this group’s TV. The production value has improved, except they need more than one cam. I saw a 187 vs Kilo bout that was good, but no crowd reaction. Robert Justice needs a lot of work, but he is better than some guys that have been in the business forever. They need some announcers!! The calling over the crowd is horrible as it needs to be plugged directly in. They need some announcers to use before the clips also. Tidwell is passable, but Big Money an announcer, he is a good manager.

RassleResults: TLCW Ripley, TN 11.17.07

----Shannon Lee beat The Grappler…Lil Tim Alfonzo beat Sugar Shane…Chris Lexx with Sue Young by DQ Randy was using chair…No contest – Derrick King/Tatt2 with Flash vs Alan Steele/”TGB” Greg Anthony…Seth Knight/Cody Melton beat “Genocide” [Albino Rhino/Maxx Corbin]…Ike Turner beat Pokerface & Void in a Triple Threat…AJ Bradley beat Rude & Brian Steele in a Triple Threat… “Trenstetter” Jon Michael went out and said “I want Dustin right now” – Starr said not now..”FiveStarr Showcase” with Dell Tucker

----Randy tried to piledrive Sue Young on a chair – revealing panties and all. I was told her family was not too happy about that… Dell Tucker had been hit by chair by Jon Michael by mistake and when Michael got beat up Tucker had not made the save, so Starr was stirring the pot, which lead to Tucker/TS both hitting Starr…Albino won some kind of slave battle royal and his partner Maxx Corbin lost, so he has been having him do stuff. Albino actually hit Corbin in the nuts from behind to cost their loss.

“Thanksgiving Throwdown” for Ripley, TN TLCW has Kevin White vs Bill Dundee , Jerry Lawler vs Derrick King, I Quit Match: Flash Flanagan vs “TGB” Greg Anthony …Ike/AJ vs Poker/Void vs Rude/Steele in some crazy tag team thing…Loser Leave Town – Dell Tucker Special Ref – Jon Michael vs Dustin Starr.."Asylum" [Arnez & Psycho] and more.

Memphis Wrestling TV Report 11.17.07

----Corey Maclin opens the show talking about 50 to 75 of wrestling in Memphis. Jimmy Hart is on the phone. They show clips of Hulk Hogan at the FedEx. They are doing a special called “Fallen Superstars” next week.

----JR Title Match: Derrick King with Rashard Devon vs Dustin Starr. Good match. For the finish DK went to the top rope, but “Too Kool 2” [Tim Grind/Flex] interferes with Grind pushing DK off the top turnbuckle. Starr pins DK for the win and title.

----Brian Christopher joins Corey Maclin to commentate. Crowd started to chant “Ali, Ali” and Brian C says hey – there is a big star out here [talking about himself]. TK2/Tatt2 beat Fire/Flame/Gladiator. Another real good bout. Heat on Tatt2 with hot tag to TK2. Everyone in the ring with Fire/Flame getting thrown outside the ring. Tatt2 then did a dive on them almost landing in the crowd. TK2 hit their finisher on Gladiator for the win.

----Mr. Guy Coffee comes out. He has been with Memphis Wrestling for 54 years. Brian C gets on announcer’s desk and acts like he is sleeping. “Opening the Vault” “Wanted Dead or Alive” brand new video featuring Lawler, Corey, Hart, Dundee, Koko, Lance, Dave, Brian C, R&R Express, Tommy Rich, Dutch Mantell, Tojo Yamamoto, Jerry Jarrett, Jeff Jarrett, The Fabs, Eddie Marlin, Eddie Gilbert, Austin Idol, Jim Cornette, MN Express, Jimmy Valiant, Jackie Fargo, Moondogs and more.

----Brian C gets mad because he is not on the video enough. He also talks about his wrestling Cup that he won at the Agri-Center. Kevin White with Sue Young/Mr. Garry White. White beat Pokerface in a good match. Finish had Sue Young get on the apron and start taking her clothes off. White goes to hit Poker, but he moves followed by a ref bump and Poker having White pinned. Mr. White then hit Poker with a chain and Kevin pinned him.

----Corey returned from commercial with Brian C still in his suit. He tells Brian he has a tag team title match in just a few moments that he needs to be dressed. Ali comes out with a glass of red juice. Brian C has turned complete heel by now and is telling Ali if it wasn’t for him, but then Ali would never be champ. Ali throws the juice in Brian’s face to cool him off and Brian gets real mad. This was done real well. Ali is going to super over as a babyface.

----Maclin said that Starr won a shot for the JR Title in Atlanta, GA. WTF??....Brian C said when Sue was taking off her clothes to please not let Mr. White start taking off his clothes. That was funny…The new “Opening the Vault” video was real good. The only thing that bothered me was it featured footage of Corey Maclin as a wrestler. There goes that ego again…Brian C was a much improvement over Reggie B Fine…There was only one mention of the upcoming “Thanksgiving Throwdown” 4 day event and that was from DK. I am going to try to get an update on that before the end of the day…Overall a real good show with good wrestling and good angles.
